Soon after joining VTS, Mariam Javed learned about the company’s robust network of employee resource groups, and she and a colleague decided to launch Muslims@VTS, an ERG to connect with colleagues who share their faith. For Javed, the success of community events around Ramadan highlighted VTS’ diverse and welcoming culture. “ERGs are a great indicator of a company’s commitment to supporting employees from different backgrounds,” she said. “I finally felt like such an important part of my life didn’t have to be hidden from my colleagues or brushed under the rug at work.”

When VTS announced its plans to return to the office, Dylan Lloyd and his ERG co- lead were concerned about losing the benefit of displaying pronouns easily within digital tools, a simple but meaningful benefit for many colleagues. Soon, they developed an analog strategy — pronoun buttons to wear or display on desks. “We wanted people to still be able to display their preferred pronouns while physically being in the office, and it makes me proud to see them throughout the office when I walk into work,” he said.

I want my colleagues to feel comfortable discussing barriers they might be facing in their roles so that I can help remove those barriers.

As a talent acquisition and DEI leader, Ivette Assis considers the big picture while planning for the future of VTS. Assis and her team are developing both proactive and reactive systems to support the hiring process, leading the way to build a more diverse workforce across the company. Beyond diversity, Assis also contributes to creating and supporting an inclusive environment across VTS with initiatives like unconscious bias trainings, values-based planning and resource guidance for hiring managers. “The company relies on our expertise in the space to make informed and impactful decisions,” she said.
