In June 2024, Alliant Credit Union announced a new mission statement —  not to redefine its work but rather to align the statement’s “talk” with the “walk” that the team embodies each day.

“Alliant is unlike any other financial institution — a digital credit union that wows our members,” the mission states. “We’re boldly disrupting banking norms to do good for our members, employees and communities.”

What Makes Alliant Credit Union Different

Alliant Credit Union is a fully digital credit union where its members are also owners, meaning its focus is on saving its members money through better bank rates and delivering value coupled with customer service. The credit union’s “member-first philosophy” has powered over 85 years of business, and today, Alliant is the largest credit union in Illinois and one of the largest in the United States.

Alliant’s team is at the heart of what brings that mission to life, and the company hires accordingly.

“Our organizational approach is unique in that we prioritize not only technical skills but also cultural fit and alignment with our mission,” Director of Talent Acquisition Donna Robinson said.

Robinson emphasized the connection between Alliant’s mission and its employee value proposition for those considering joining the team.

As the Director of Talent Acquisition at Alliant Credit Union, my primary responsibility is to attract, hire and retain top talent aligned with our company’s mission-driven culture and values. This involves developing recruitment strategies, overseeing the hiring process and ensuring a positive candidate experience.

How do you build team culture at Alliant?

Building team culture at Alliant involves fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives. This includes regular team-building activities, open communication channels and recognition programs to celebrate achievements. A strong team culture is crucial for the work we do as it enhances collaboration, boosts morale and ultimately drives better outcomes for our members.

In addition, structures and policies such as flexible work arrangements, diversity and inclusion initiatives and opportunities for continuous learning and development support our values, culture and mission.

 

How do you help your team grow their careers?

We provide ongoing coaching and feedback, access to training and development programs, and opportunities for advancement within the organization. Additionally, we encourage employees to take on stretch assignments and pursue professional certifications to broaden their skill sets and reach their full potential.

 

What role do your team members play in building, strengthening or celebrating your company mission and culture?

The talent acquisition team plays a vital role in reinforcing and celebrating our company’s mission and culture through their daily actions, collaboration and unwavering commitment to our core values. Whether they’re volunteering in the community, representing Alliant at events to showcase what makes us exceptional or engaging with employees to discuss their career goals, each team member significantly contributes to our impact both within the organization and beyond.
