As a Surveillance Analyst for the Compliance team, you will act as an independent control and trusted business partner for Optiver. You will work with seasoned professionals to ensure the business is operating in accordance with local regulations, laws, market requirements and expectations. In this role, you will be a key player in influencing the direction of Optiver’s risk culture.

As a member of our Compliance team you will use technology and your understanding of the regulatory environment to ensure our surveillance program is operating efficiently and continuously improved. You will collaborate across functions to understand deficiencies and work to mitigate the firm’s biggest risks to enable growth and bring Optiver to the next level.
As a Surveillance Analyst, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Review and follow up on market abuse trade surveillance alerts and electronic communication surveillance alerts
  • Contribute to the execution and improvement of the compliance monitoring and surveillance framework
  • Analyze large sets of market and trade data to detect and evaluate unwanted trading patterns and assess potential risks
  • Design and build controls to prevent and detect unwanted behavior
  • Test and review existing tools, systems and controls
  • Advise on and support the implementation of compliance requirements
  • Propose and implement improvements to compliance processes
  • Identify strategic deficiencies as well as major improvements in the quality and effectiveness of our overall surveillance framework
  • Assess the business risks for our trading operations in a thorough, sensible and compliant manner with integrity
  • Analyze and assess the strategic risks and opportunities arising from the relevant developments in the market as well as regulatory framework in an accurate but pragmatic manner to enable business to grow in a controlled environment

  • Academic degree
  • 2+ years of relevant working experience, including market abuse trade surveillance
  • An interest in financial markets, trading and technology
  • Strong sense of integrity and the ability to balance business interests with the need to exercise independent judgment
  • A strong affinity for technology and data handling
  • Experience with Query Languages (SQL, Python) beneficial
  • An analytical and investigative mind with an eye for detail
  • A proactive, assertive and results-driven personality
  • A strong focus, especially when dealing with recurring tasks
  • Experience working at or with exchanges and regulators is a plus.
