The Role  

The Regional Director at Green Thumb plays a critical role in leading multiple retail stores within a region as a part of a dynamic and expanding national cannabis retail footprint.  This role is responsible for overseeing and elevating multiple retail stores within a district (commonly state-based) with the ultimate focus on the professional development of store management and/or district managers, operational alignment and excellence within the store, meeting budgetary and sales goals, and ensuring consistency and the execution on alignment the overall vision for each store in their region. Establish benchmarks for store management teams and implement policies and programs that will help those teams achieve their goals to ultimately drive sales and customer/patient engagement within the region. The role will be one of the key drivers for cross-functional alignment of the retail field operations within the region and provide the team with the leadership for healthy financial performance and streamlined operational excellence while inspiring leaders to create and nurture strong, diverse teams that engage their customers and communities. Ultimately, they can connect the pieces to understand the importance of compliance, store revenue performance, and the customer and patient connection in the cannabis space.   

This position is 75% focused on Strategic initiatives and 25% on store based Tactical initiatives.  

Responsibilities  

Leadership and Talent Management   

  • Prioritize talent development and talent pipeline to build, train and develop strong retail store leadership team within the district within an evolving retail environment.
  • Inspire teams through shared goals and dedication to creating a culture of positive recognition and business accountability.
  • Develop high performing, results driven teams through coaching, providing transparent insight and feedback, and meaningful developmental opportunities.
  • Continuous talent planning to ensure that the staffing plan of the region reflects the mission and standards of Green Thumb’s values.
  • Provides guidance to District Managers/General Managers for assessment of their team’s talent and set help build a strong pipeline of internal talent ready to rise and ensuring a thoughtful succession strategy and plan.  

Retail Strategy and Regional Performance   

  • Collaborate with Retail leadership and the company executive team to build and execute the retail strategy with specific focus on driving brand awareness of the company’s portfolio brand.
  • Partner with the VP of Retail Field Operations in Retail leadership to develop, implement, execute and maintain the retail strategy and growth objectives partnering with FP&A on the sales trends and make recommendations to define that strategy to maximize profitability.
  • Partner with other Regional Directors within Green Thumb to create synergies and to develop each other.  
  • Strategically oversee a growing portfolio of cannabis dispensaries ensuring consistent retail experience and guest/patient engagement across key functions: Operations, Merchandising, Marketing, Training, Compliance, People and Culture and Finance/Accounting.  
  • Develop, implement, execute and maintain the retail strategy and growth objectives partnering with FP&A on the sales trends and make recommendations to define that strategy to maximize profitability.  
  • Set sales targets and implement action plans for achieving set goals in the entire region and the financial health between performance and projections.  
  • Forecast sales figures and inventory requirements for each location within region.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Operations to ensure quality and compliance to policies, procedures, and regulations; immediately address any lapses in compliance with company policies or local, state and federal laws.
  • Act as a coach to the General Managers and District Managers and as a resource to each store employee to help inspire the success of each store; a point of escalation and diffusion.   

Qualifications   

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least eight years of multi-unit management experience; strong, engaging and present leader
  • Proficient in maintaining P&L responsibility for significant retail operations with strong analytical skills, financial aptitude, and attention to detail
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, non-verbal, written), with the ability to build relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Able to work a flexible schedule depending on the needs of the business; will require work on weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Travel up to 75%, mostly within the region

  • Must have a solid understanding of the Cannabis laws, rules and regulations and passion to further their understanding and knowledge of the industry and the laws  

Additional Requirements  

  • Must pass any and all required background checks 
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry  
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Must be approved by state badging agency to work in cannabis industry
