The Role

About the Role
As a senior software engineering manager in the Advisor Workstation team, you will be working in a cross-functional team, collaborating with teammates in Toronto, Chicago, and Mumbai. As a leader in this team, you will be managing a squad of engineers working closely with product managers, support managers and product operations to ensure that the product development teams facilitate a much higher level of service to our key customers. We aspire to transform our customer satisfaction and NPS scores by providing cutting edge engineering solutions to complement our product functionality. You will be the bridge between our Workflow squads and our Support teams. In addition to this, you will act as matrix lead for several product development initiatives like data integrations, enterprise data assets, workstation admin tools, product insights and enterprise login modules.
Job Responsibilities

  • Be the engineering face for Product support, representing the Workstation engineering team to stakeholders and clients.
  • Build engineering solutions to key focus areas, to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Guide global teams to build robust data engineering pipelines
  • Work with architects and leads to design data import and export mechanisms to interface with advisory ecosystem players like Custodians, Financial Planning providers, TAMPs and CRMs.
  • Work with internal data teams at Morningstar to load, transform and publish data solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage in the whole code lifecycle
  • Team building and training engineers to be problem solvers and high potential employees
  • Manage and mentor engineers, help guide in their career growth.
  • Setup and tune the engineering, operations, QA, support processes.
  • Help define engineering standards/practices and help the team understand and follow those practices.
  • Guide engineers through performance review processes.


Qualifications

  • Passionate about both Product Development and Product Support.
  • Strong Data Engineering skills.
  • Deep experience with Dot Net/C#, and possibly Java/Python.
  • Experience with authentication concepts like SSO, SAML and OIDC.
  • Expertise in using debugging tools like Splunk, NewRelic, CloudWatch and other logging solutions.
  • Experience with AWS (Amazon Web Services) including Containers, Glue jobs, Lambdas and serverless deployments.
  • Experience with web application development (HTML/CSS and Frameworks like Vue)
  • Systems engineering mindset to be able to see end to end solutions
  • Experience with SQL databases such as Postgres, Redshift, MS SQL
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to come up with creative, out of the box solutions.
  • Hardworking, high energy, ambitious, inquisitive, problem solver.
  • Strong leadership skills, motivating and developing senior engineering talent.
  • Writing understandable and maintainable code.
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative team with excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Humble, honest, and to the point.


Nice to have

  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, application protocols, security)
  • Knowledge and Experience with AI and Machine Learning tools
  • Knowledge of computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, design patterns.
  • Experience with engineer practices such as writing design documents, performing code reviews, pair programming, participating in Scrum/Kanban workflows.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools.
  • Experience building/using RESTful APIs
